Crazy Dreams..

“Thank God even crazy dreams come true” – Carrie Underwood

So guys, it happened!!

The invites started going out for Carrie Underwood’s fan club party at the Grand Ole Opry today….

I got one!!!

Seriously I can’t even describe how badly I lost my mind when I saw the email come through! This has just sweetened my Nashville trip even more. I had a wish list of artists I wanted to see in the CMA Fest line up; and out of that list Carrie was literally the only one missing from the line up. The fact that I now get to go and see a private performance from her at the Opry means that I’ll literally see every single one of my favourite artists in Nashville. This trip could not get any better!

Also this happened today and I nearly DIED!!!

It always makes me feel happy when they see our tweets about them when they’re so busy. This just made my day! 🙂

Also I highly recommend you check out their new video for ‘Happy People’ – guaranteed to make you smile!

See ya next time!

Somewhere Far Away…

“Whispers on the window, gone without a trace. By the time you look for me, well, I’ll be somewhere far away” – Little Big Town

Hey friends!

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged anything; I guess that’s because I haven’t really had much of an update to share. This isn’t a massive update either, but it’s nearly 1AM here and I can’t sleep!

Time is flying by so fast though; I remember booking this trip in early November and thinking “oh my god the next seven months are going to drag on” – but it has been the complete opposite. I’m now 28 days away from my flight to Nashville and I’m in a bit of a state of shock over it to be honest haha..

I’m in the process of working out a rough itinerary for my 2.5 weeks there. But at the same time I want to leave it kind of open because I’m sure I’ll meet a tonne of people at the hostel I’m staying at and I’ll want to go adventuring with them. My first week is pretty much set in stone though, because that’s CMA Fest week. Then I have a couple of tours booked which I’ve spoken about before.

One additional tour I locked in was a ‘Nashville TV Show Tour’ – this one takes me on a backstage tour of the Ryman, to a few filming locations, and to the Bluebird Cafe. I mainly did this because I really wanted to go to the Bluebird but heard it is so hard to get into – this tour pretty much guarantees entrance. Plus, I love the TV show of course!

Carrie Underwood just announced her fan club party, so I entered the draw to attend that one. In previous years I would always look through the photos that emerge from those parties and have had major FOMO – I’ve always wanted to go to one, but this is the first time I’ll actually be in Nashville and able to go. So please cross your fingers for me! What a dream that would be!

I’m having mental dilemmas over how much luggage to take with me. My airline allows 2 large checked bags and one carry-on bag. I went and purchased two large suitcases to take over there, but I definitely only need one. My current question is do I bring them both over anyway and fill one with my shopping? Or do I take only one and travel light, but then buy a second suitcase over there for my shopping? There will be a lot of shopping for sure

I’ve already made a bit of a shopping list! I’m going to get basically the whole Little Big Town ‘Boondocks’ merchandise range that they just released from the Opry! And I’m also going to pick up some CALIA active wear (I have an obsession with active wear in general – the fact that there is a line of active wear from Carrie Underwood is like a dream come true for me! LOL), and there are a few pieces from Karen Fairchild’s line that I absolutely love and want to pick up – like the red lace bomber jacket, and I LOOOOOVE that yellow butterfly dress.

OH! Speaking of….. there have been some exciting things going on since my last blog post. Little Big Town came to Australia and I got to see their show at the Enmore Theatre! They were absolutely incredible. All my friends know how much I adore this band and I’ve been waiting for so many years to see them live. They’d never been to Australia before, so this was a pretty big deal for me. Anyway, I can’t even describe what happened after I saw them live – I thought I was a mega-fan before, but the amount of love I felt for them after walking out of that theatre was on a whole other level. I was sitting on the balcony, front row, so I had an amazingly clear view of the stage. At one point I waved at them, and Kimberly Schlapman waved back – AND I CRIED! LOL! Such a dork! I took a few videos from that night, so here’s one of them (for real though, how good was my view!):

You can see the rest on my YouTube channel. Kip Moore opened the show for them and I got to meet him after the show! He was super cool & signed my ticket 🙂

Clare Bowen and O’Shea both just announced Australian tours for July, so I get to keep the country music gigs going when I get back from CMA Fest! I’m so excited for these ones! I saw Clare Bowen when she was in town last year and she blew me away. And O’Shea are an Aussie duo who I just adore – I was hoping they would be at CMA Fest but they’re not in the lineup. So this was a good alternative!

Anyway, now I’m rambling. I’m sure I’ll have a few updates to come before my trip, but until then, thanks for reading!

Dry Town..

“I’d give a nickel for a sip or two to wash me down, outta this dry town” – Miranda Lambert

Hi guys,

Today I booked another element of my Nashville trip!

I found a tour company called Tennessee Whiskey Tours, and they’ve got a “Jack & Back” tour where they drive you all the way from Downtown Nashville into Lynchburg, and then take you back at the end of the day.

I’ll be doing the “Flight of Jack” which is a guided tour through the distillery where you hear stories from the past & learn about the whiskey making process. Then we go on to sample 5 varieties from the Jack Daniel’s range! The whole tour goes for 90 minutes.

I picked a fairly early tour so I’d have time to explore Lynchburg and have a nice lunch before we have to head back to Nashville.

I’m a big whiskey fan so I’m super excited for this one!

What Are You Listening To?..

“I put that record on – girl you know what song.. And I let it play again and again” – Chris Stapleton

For this blog post I wanted to write a list of my 10 favourite albums from the last year or so. Some of these are older than one year but they have pretty much defined my playlist over the last 12 months (these are in no particular order):

  1. Storyteller – Carrie Underwood
    Favourite Tracks:
    – Choctaw County Affair
    – Smoke Break

I was lucky enough to attend the Australian leg of her Storyteller tour. It was by far the best concert I’ve ever been to – she’s  an incredible performer. I even got to meet her! – Picture below (you’ll have to excuse my ‘deer in the headlights’ expression). If you’ve ever wondered what she is like in person, she’s very sweet & genuine. I walked out an even bigger fan!

  2. Traveller – Chris Stapleton
    Favourite tracks:
    – Tennessee Whiskey
    – Fire Away

I actually discovered Chris Stapleton one day through Spotify. ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ ended up on my “Discover Weekly” playlist and I immediately fell in love with this album.

  3. Ripcord – Keith Urban
    Favourite Tracks:
    – Blue Ain’t Your Colour
    – Wasted Time

Finally new music from Keith! This one sounds pretty different to his previous albums but every song is catchy as hell. I got to see him perform live in December last year and boy can he entertain a crowd!!

  4. Hero – Maren Morris
    Favourite Tracks:
    – I Wish I Was
    – I Could Use a Love Song

Maren is probably the artist that I am most excited about in all of country music. This album is honestly amazing – it lives in my car CD player and I listen to it daily. I’m so glad this artist is starting to be recognised!

  5. The Breaker – Little Big Town
    Favourite Tracks:
    – Rollin’
    – Better Man

Ok this one has only been released for 2 days but I have to include it. It is all I’ve listened to since the second it was released and I’m OBSESSED! Little Big Town never disappoint!

  6. The Weight of These Wings – Miranda Lambert
    Favourite Tracks:
    – To Learn Her
    – Vice

This album is an emotional rollercoaster. I first listened to it on the train on the way to work the morning it was released and I was laughing one minute, then crying my eyes out the next (yes, in public!). This is some of her most honest and raw work yet and you can always count on Miranda to make you feel something when you listen.

  7. Deep Tracks – Faith Hill
    Favourite Tracks:
    – Somebody Stand By Me
    – Back To  You

Ahh Faith Hill was actually one of my favourite artists back when I was a kid! Her vocals on this album are brilliant and I’m so excited to see her tour with Tim McGraw next year!!

  8. Puxico – Natalie Hemby
    Favourite Tracks:
    – Cairo, IL
    – Lovers on Display

Natalie Hemby has penned some of my absolute favourite songs from some of my favourite artists. So to say I was excited by the release of her solo album is the understatement of the year. Every song on this album is incredible and I hope it gains some recognition in upcoming country music award ceremonies!

  9. Southernality – A Thousand Horses
    Favourite Tracks:
    – Smoke
    – First Time

This album is a hell of a lot of fun! It has a country meets rock-n-roll feel to it. This is another one that I discovered through Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” playlist. I’m really hoping these guys will be around CMA Fest this year – I’m dying to see them perform live.

  10. Black – Dierks Bentley
    Favourite Tracks
    – Why Do I Feel
    – Black

Dierks has been a favourite of mine for a long time! This album is no exception. I like to put this on when I’ve got a long train trip ahead of me and just chill out. I would recommend this one to everyone!

Well that just about wraps it up! All of these albums and artists left a huge impression on me. If you’re looking for new music, give these albums a go! 🙂

What albums have left an impression on you?

Down on Music Row..

“I got into Nashville early. Sleepy, hungry, tired and dirty. And on the steps of RCA I ate a stale, sweet roll. In the fountain at the hall of fame I washed my face and read the names in the walkway of the stars, down on Music Row” – Dolly Parton

Memphis in June..

“Memphis in June. Sweet oleander blowing perfume in the air everywhere. Up jumps the moon to make it so much grander. It’s paradise honey” – Nina Simone

Today I booked another element of my trip to Tennessee by locking in a Gray Line day trip from Nashville to Memphis.

My trip will include:

  • A visit to Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland
  • A guided tour of the famous Sun Studio
  • A visit to the Memphis Rock n Soul Museum
  • Taking a look through history at the Civil Rights Museum
  • Dinner on Beale Street

It will be tricky to fit all of this into one day honestly, but I’m determined!

This is another part of music history that I’m really interested in, so I’m super excited to be able to go there and just be in the same places that started the careers of so many music legends.

A fine way to spend a Saturday, I think!

Drunk on a Plane..

“I bet the fella on the aisle thought I was crazy cause I taped your picture to the seatback right beside me. Now I’ve got empty mini bottles fillin’ both our trays. I’m getting drunk on a plane” – Dierks Bentley

My first solo trip kicks off on 5th June when I head to Music City – aka Nashville!

I’m heading over there for CMA Fest 2017 and to say I’m excited is an understatement. I’m fairly sure this is literally all I’ve talked to any of my friends about since I booked my flights in November.

But ‘Flight Anxiety’ is real.

We’ve all seen that episode of The Simpsons where Marge freaks out on the plane. Literally me.

From the second I booked my flights I’ve had major anxiety about the whole long-haul flight situation (I hate flying, even small distances. This will be my first long-haul flight). Current worries:

  • What if I miss my flight?
  • When do I sleep on the plane?
  • What if I can’t sleep on the plane?
  • What if my bags get lost?
  • How do I check in to my flight?
  • What if I do it wrong?
  • How will I know where to go for my connecting flights in Dallas?
  • What if I get lost at the airport?
  • How do I go through customs?
  • I hope I don’t have to sit next to a sick person for 16 hours
  • What if my travel sim doesn’t work and I have no phone/internet?

Basically I’m just confused about the entire process of checking in and making sure my bags end up in the right place, both when boarding my initial flight and my connecting flight. I’ve never done it before.

I think its worse because I’m going alone & won’t have anyone I know to lean on.

Have to keep telling myself I’m going to an English speaking country so it’s not like I won’t be able to ask questions if I get stuck.

Hopefully by the time June 5th rolls around my worries will be behind me. We’ll see, I guess.

Does anyone else get major anxiety about this kind of stuff? Is this normal?
